Our Run 1 will take care of the north-west area which includes two pets, water and tree branch. Kids have built a few attachments to help accomplish these missions. They still need some improvement but they work very well.

Get to know SNB - Bill
Hi, I’m Bill, the new assistant coach. I’m in high school and 16 years old. I join the SNB FLL team because I like robot and teammate is my friend. I am helping to teach kids programming.
I like computer very much. I can program with java and have developed some application for android. I want to join this team because I want to develop my skill to achieve my goal becoming a software engineer.
I will do my best in my team and get a good score.

SNB team model
Here you go. This is our team model made by kids last week. They are thinking this model could be a cool decoration added to the robot. We will see.
New team T-shirt design
As we need to print more T-shirts for this year, a new design was just done last week. The team logo is kept with no change.

Robot Design
The first robot was almost done! Yeah! Thank you guys for the great teamwork for getting our first robot assembled (except the front light sensors). Starting from next meeting, we will be able to start programming and developing strategies. Bruce's tank wheels look pretty cool. This design will win the last mission for sure. Please keep it.

FLL 2013 Kick-off
We had a successful kick-off meeting on Sunday, November 3rd. We are glad to see Bill to join our team as an assistant coach. Here is a quick re-cap:
We are going to attend the BC Qualifier tournament on January 4th in Vancouver. If we are qualified, we will win a slot in the next level tournament which is a Semi-Final, from the three Washington State Semi Finals. About 45-50 teams will move on ultimately to the Washington State FLL Championship. I guess all the semi-final and final will happen in Seattle, WA.
We have only 9 weeks to complete all three parts: Projects, Robert Design, and Robert Game. The schedule is a bit tight.

Team Tip from SNB - Use Stickers as Giveaways
This year is our rookie year. We didn't have a good idea how much we would spend so we had to control the cost. We wanted to give out some small items at the regional championship tournament. Buttons seem to be the tradition. Most of the giveaways seem to be buttons. After the study, the decision was made that we use stickers which is even cheaper. We bought a pack of Avery Sticker Project Paper White at Staples, designed the grahics by using Adobe Photoshop, printed them by using a HP deskjet color printer. We used them at the regional championship tournament. Kids gave them out and everyone loved them.

Qualifier Event – Vancouver Island
Hello Everyone,
I hope everyone is well. At this time, I like to announce the teams going on to Division A – B.C. Championship in January. I have tallied all of the results from judging and the robot game, I have also weighted all of the responses from all the judges and referees and have ranked the teams in the following order:
1 492
2 15036
3 13978
4,5 5480, 4317
6 13385
7 9180
8 15457
Congratulations to all the teams that participated. I will be sending out a survey in the next week as well as opening the registration for the championship. Any teams that did not make the top 8 teams are also invited to participate in the January Championship as Division B Teams.
Please be advised that upon the completion of this qualifier tournament and the publishing of the results, all notes and judgment documentations will be shredded to protect the professional integrity of the judges and referees. This was explicitly requested by the judges and supported by the FIRST LEGO League. In the past, I had sent out the tallied results against policy because I believe in letting the children know how/where they did well and where they did poorly, however in this case, I am unable to accommodate.
To solve the problem, I can provide a judge to evaluate their presentations during the next scrimmage in January to offer verbal feedback and suggestions. This will allow the children ample time to redo their presentations for the Championship in late January.
See you all in January.

For those competing in division A, please have a close look at the Judging Schedule. I am asking each team to sign up for their time slot. I have staggered the spaces according to the time limit and spacing requirement set by the FIRST LEGO League.
Each team in division A is asked to choose a judging order and submit your request (Your selection number, your registered team number, and your team name) by email to: fll-bc@telus.net
For example: if your team chooses #3, this would mean:
Your Core Value judging is at: 9:40 am
Your Robot Design judging is at: 12:40 pm
Your Project Presentation is at: 9:00 am
This method will allow teams that needs to travel from afar a later start time, while giving other teams a chance to start and finish the judging component early. Please email Brian Yu should you have any question(s): fll-bc@telus.net
Thank You.
